Environmental
Stewardship - The Green Team
In early
2008, All Saints introduced a new environmental
ministry, affectionately known as "The Green Team." In
October 2008, church leaders unanimously approved a motion to recommend
that members and staff of ASLC take into account the origin and
disposal
of
any materials
purchased
by the
congregation,
and move toward adopting practices that minimize adverse environmental
impact. All
Saints is pleased to join with other local congregations to increase
awareness of “Green Living” through the Bowie Interfaith Green
Groups blog (http://bowiebigg.blogspot.com/).
As the blog
demonstrates, the faith community in Bowie, MD is mobilizing
to address the effects of climate change and play a role - along
with citizens, the government, businesses and other non-profit
organizations - in
improving air and water quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
that contribute to global climate change.
One
of the Green Team's first actions was to get All Saints certified
as an official wildlife habitat by the National
Wildlife Federation. All
Saints Lutheran Church is the first place of worship
in Bowie to achieve this certification. Learn
more about how All Saints qualified as an official wildlife habitat.
